William & Kate Welcome Poppy Appeal Supporters, Then Head Out to High Street

This morning, William and Kate met staff and volunteers taking part in the Royal British Legion appeal at Kensington Palace to mark London Poppy Day. The supporters and members of the armed forces stopped in at the palace as part of a tour across the capital on a 1960s Routemaster Bus.

Then the royal couple hopped on the red classic bus for the short trip from the palace to the Kensington tube station, where they surprised hundreds of commuters and chatted to some of the poppy sellers.

About 2,000 uniformed personnel, veterans and their supporters are hitting the city's streets today for the eighth annual event ahead of Remembrance Day to commemorate the end of the First World War in 1918.

The Duchess dressed appropriately for the occasion, wearing her long, LK Bennett claret 'Ami' coat with black tights and black Episode ‘Angel’ court shoes to match the colors of the Remembrance Day poppies.

Kate has worn this coat on previous occasions (2011 to visit UNICEF's Emergency Supply Centre and then again in 2012 to support Wales in a rugby match). It is from LK Bennett's autumn winter 2011 collection and features a high collar, epaulets, and a waist-clinching belt

Her hair was left long and loose with a part in the middle, rather than the side. On the top of Kate's head, silver roots were clearly visible and the rest of her hair had a hint of blonde highlights coming through the chestnut.
